Our Program

Our Schedule: 

9 - 9:20 am / 12:15-12:35 pm 
Arrival 

Morning gathering. We talk about what the day will be like, including introducing art projects we will be doing that day and telling the students if they have any one-on-one activities they must do with the teachers that day (such as cutting, writing, etc.)

9:20-10:10 am/ 12:35-1:25 pm
Free Choice Time

The children can choose activities in the areas throughout the classroom: art, play dough, easel, tactile table, fine motor table (puzzles, small motor activities), blocks, dramatic play area, books, writing area or the train table.

10:10-10:30 am / 1:25-1:45 pm
Clean up/ Snack Time

After we clean up, the children wash their hands and sit together at the tables with the adults. The snack is provided by one family each day. (This usually means that each family will need to provide snack for the whole class about 5-7 times in the school year).  The children serve themselves food and pass the bowls around the table.

10:30-10:50 am  / 1:45-2:05 pm
Large Group

We sing together, read a book, and sometimes do a learning activity such as charting the weather, learning a Spanish song, writing down the rhyming words we can hear in a story, or writing down all the sounds of a letter we can hear in a story.

10.50-11.10 am / 2:05-2:25 pm
Outdoor/Gross Motor Time

We try to go outside every day. If we do not go outside, we have access to a large room where we will do a gross motor activity such as parachute, beanbags or games for physical activity.

11:10-11:30 am  / 2:25-2:45 pm
Small Group Time

The teachers take a small group of children each for an activity such as show and tell, bingo games, or drawing a picture for their  journal.  At the end of the day, we gather again to sing our goodbye song before parents come to pick their children up.




Each school year, we assess every child for:

-Cognitive skills: recognizing letters, numbers, shapes, colors
-Fine motor skills: cutting, writing, drawing
-Language skills: clear speech, sequencing a story, basic communication skills
-Gross motor skills: hopping, balancing, climbing
-Social/emotional skills: interaction with peers, conflict resolution, self control

We have parent teacher conferences once per year to determine educational and social goals  for each individual child.
